Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
