Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
